** Maximum desktop width depends on the material, thickness and construction of the top you are providing. Our durable 1.75'' thick real wood desktops can be up to 96'' wide, but flimsier tops may sag or bend at that 96'' width if placed on our width-adjustable desk frame without installing the crossbar. The maximum recommended depth of your desktop is 40" (desk will overhang the feet of the frame by about 5'' in the front and rear). Please note that a 40'' deep desk will be slightly less stable, and we recommend a three-leg 950 frame for those who require no desk movement. A 950 frame supports a 50'' deep desktop. All UPLIFT desks offer best-in-class stability.
- What kind of top can I attach to this frame?
We recommend using a desktop that is at least 3/4" to 1" thick. The desktop also needs to be able to attach to your standing desk frame using wood screws. See our specifications table for width and depth restrictions.
- What needs to be done to switch my UPLIFT Desk Frame to a larger or smaller Desktop?
UPLIFT Desk Frames are modular with crossbars and crossbar ends made of steel square tubing. This construction makes adjusting the width of your frame as easy as loosening a few bolts and the either pushing the lifting columns closer together or pulling them apart.
- If I live outside of the United States will this desk work with my outlet and voltage?
All control boxes by UPLIFT Desk are designed to run on the US electricity standard of 120V. If you are ordering an UPLIFT Desk frame from outside the United States (minus Canada), you'll need to plug your desk frame into a step down transformer. If you don't use a transformer you run the risk of overloading your control box, which is not covered by warranty. If you have any questions at all regarding how your country's voltage works with this frame, please contact us.
- Is there an easy way to tell what version of control box I have?
You bet! You can check to see which version of control box you have by glancing at the silver label on it. If it says v4.1, v4.2, or v4.3, you know you have the newest version of UPLIFT Desk's control box, complete with a few new features!
- What are some of the features on the new control boxes?
The latest version of UPLIFT Desk's control boxes comes with several exciting new safety feature - Collision Sensitivity. This allows you to set the sensitivity for your desk, so when adjusting your desk stops when it touches an object, instead of continuing to raise or lower. Keypad Lockout is another new function you'll love, which allows you to safely set the keypad to keep unwanted hands from adjusting your desk. Enjoy being able to toggle between One-Touch and Constant-Touch modes with just a few buttons. You'll also be able to switch between inches and centimeters on your keypad. Read about how to access these awesome new features on our blog!
- Is the 2-leg frame sturdy?
While any height adjustable standing desk can experience small amounts of wobble when fully extended, the UPLIFT Desk 2-Leg Frame is rated as one of the sturdiest on the market. If your desk has been installed per the installation manual you should not experience any noticeable shake or wobble, even while standing.
- Why are three-stage frames better than two-stage frames?
That has to do with the 3 spindles UPLIFT Desk uses in each of their frame legs versus the standard 2 you find on cheaper height adjustable desk frames on the market today. Because of this extra spindle, UPLIFT Desks are 33% quicker to adjust! Also, three-stage frames offer users a higher range of height adjustability, so they fit a wider variety of people, from petites to the very tall, even kids! And if you plan on adding a standing desk treadmill to your workstation in the future, a three-stage frame is important to allow you enough desk height to use your treadmill.
- What are these "dual motors" I keep reading about?
UPLIFT Desks feature a dual-motor design, which means each leg gets its own motor, making UPLIFT Desks quieter to adjust, stronger and more reliable, and safer than desks with a single motor. Don't settle for less when building your dream desk!
- What kind of motor is used?
UPLIFT Height Adjustable Standing Desk Frames features a direct-drive spindle motor.
- Can I use this on a circular top?
Yes, you can! Just make sure your circular desktop falls within the length and width requirements for the UPLIFT Desk 2-Leg Frame.
- What is the largest desktop I can put on this frame?
We recommend that your desktop be no more than 96" wide and 34" deep. Keep in mind that a larger desktop should be at least 1" thick for stability.
- What tools do I need to assemble the frame?
All you will need to assemble the frame is an Allen wrench, which will be included in the package. When it comes time to add your own desktop, you will need a Phillips-head screwdriver or a power drill.
- Can I put a glass top on this?
We do not recommend using a glass desktop with your UPLIFT Desk Frame as you will have no means to attach the glass to the standing desk frame.
- How difficult is assembly?
It is easier than any bookcase I've put together, and if I can put it together you likely can too. We have this awesome video that shows you step-by-step of what to do. If you still don't think you can handle it, just let our Sales Pros know and we can look into setting up installation depending on where you live.
- Can I order a desktop later?
Sure! We have a wide variety of desktops that you can order without the frame.
- What kind of materials can I use for my desktop?
Wood, laminate, or other composite material that is fairly thick, would be a good material for your desktop. We recommend using a desktop material that is sturdy and at least 1" thick. If you use a desktop that is less than 1" thick, your desk will not be as sturdy and may wobble.
- Are the screws to attach the frame to my desktop included?
The frame will include #10 x 5/8 wood screws, which can be used to attach your own desktop to the frame. Before you begin assembly, just make sure that the wood screws are not longer than the thickness of your desktop so that you don't puncture through your desktop when attaching it to the frame.
- Can I order grommets to use with my own desktop?
Wire and Power Grommets may be purchased separately. You will just need to bore an 80mm diameter hole into your desktop.

After having the parts sitting in my office for a month, I finally found a bamboo laminate counter top and put it all together. With one of THS's keyboard trays that I've been using for 4 or 5 years. After only a week or two switching between sitting and standing, my back feels better already. Wonderful product. I hope it lasts. It is very well made. I would recommend it to everyone.
I actually have the uplift 700 base, but I don't think they sell that anymore. It's very similar to this base. I just had to write this review because the company's customer service is so awesome. I've owned my base for over a year, and due to a user mishap (my kid's fault!), one leg was a little bit higher than the other. Customer service walked me through the reset procedure, and when that did not fix the problem, they just shipped me a new leg.
This desk serves me very well every day, and The Human Solution is just great to work with.
I had a desktop that I already enjoyed but wanted to take advantage of the standing desk at times. This kit worked GREAT for converting my current desk to a convertible desk! It took me about an hour after receiving the kit to modify my desktop to fit it and I was good to go. It holds my laptop cradle and dual monitor setup with ease. I never even think about the weight of things I stack on it. Very powerful indeed. Some people have complained that it shakes too much, but I have not experienced this. I am 6'5" and stand on an anti-fatigue mat and have not had swaying issues. I also tend to lean on the desk from time-to-time and it never feels unstable.
Excuse the dirty desk...been a crazy beginning of the year!
Pros: Solid, powerful, and easy to construct. Very heavy duty construction.
Cons: None that I have found.
I bought myself this frame as a Christmas present and to help me be more healthy this year. I used a Table top as my desktop. It went together muc easier than I expected. The up/down movement and controls are great and the quality of it seems top notch. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in this market.
Couldn't be easier to set up or use. Owner spends hours in home office. He has seen improvement in his muscular discomforts.
I bought a beautiful piece of irregular shaped black walnut to put on top and it looks and works great. I really like the design and build quality of this base and may make a couple more for a few friends. Thanks for a great product!
Pros: Design, Ease of Use, Quality of materials, just what I wanted for a base
Cons: None so far
We bought the frame and threw a 96x36 butcher block on top of it. Assembly was pretty straightforward and simple, no complaints there. I personally have had some circulation problems caused from the way I sleep (and sitting at a desk 8 hours a day certainly didn't help), and being 6'4" it wasn't going to get any better unless I did something.
I can say without hesitation the desk has helped me and it's night and day. I'll sleep through the whole night, AND I don't wake up with my arms dead asleep for 20 minutes.
Besides that it's also great practice for standing for longer periods of time. This is huge if you're like me and travel all the time to conferences. Networking is great, but having feet that are killing you from networking --- not so much.
Incredibly sturdy and capable of carrying 100 lbs of gear even when installed with a tabletop extending the substructure fully. Motors and gearing sound and feel solid and the four memory positions are very easy to set and use. So far, it has served me well for several months and my back has never felt better. Kudos to you Human Solution for building a rugged tank of a desk. Look forward to using it daily for years and years to come.
I write for a living so spend a great deal of time at a computer. I have a solid oak table I had made as my workspace, really did not want to give that up but needed a solution to sitting all day. I bought the uplift 900 Frame. It fits under the table with no obstruction and it works perfectly. My initial concern that the desk would be too heavy to lift and still be stable (it is around 100 pounds empty but with printer, two monitors on it around 150 pounds). Those concerns are long gone. The uplift handles it without strain and is as stable up as down. I also have a Humanscale Freedom Saddle Seat which I bought before (one that goes up quite high). It works perfectly with the desk so I can sit, stand or sort of Stand-Sit. Both are great products. For those who want to keep their own desk or table but want to stand they are a perfect solution.
This product comes standard with a 7-year limited warranty.
