While at first glance ergonomics can seem like a simple set of techniques for working in more comfortable postures, it actually takes years of demanding study and real-world practice to become an expert. Only a handful of CPEs are admitted each year. Becoming a CPE is a long and arduous process, combining three areas of focus: education, experience, and examination. Becoming certified requires first earning a Bachelor's Degree in a specialized field: life sciences, engineering sciences, or behavioral sciences. After graduation, an applicant is required to work full-time in the field for three years, applying ergonomics to real-life work environments, while earning additional academic credits. Lastly, applicants must take and pass an 8-hour comprehensive written exam for the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics.

Who is Jon Paulsen, our Founder and CPE?
CEO. CPE. Productivity purveyor. Health devotee. A man of many interests and titles, Jon Paulsen, our Certified Professional Ergonomist, began Human Solution to design, build, and bring the benefits of electric height adjustable standing desks to more people. Jon began his studies in Mechanical Engineering, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Utah in 1993. In 1996, Jon received his Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Ergonomics, also from the University of Utah.
While working as a Mechanical Engineer for Albertsons, Jon greatly improved material handling processes and reduced ergonomic risk in large-scale distribution center operations. He later worked as an Ergonomic Consultant within their manufacturing, warehouse, mining, and refinery operations. Then in 1997, Jon joined Applied Materials and lead a team of ergonomists as Managing Ergonomist in the industrial engineering department for eight years, focusing on assembly line and cleanroom manufacturing operations. Every job gave him new wisdom and further molded his view of what employees need to work in the most efficient and healthy ways possible.
That's where we come into the story. After completing his schooling, certification, and work in manufacturing, Jon started Human Solution in 2002, with the goal to help every person, no matter their budget, work better and live healthier. Although adjustable height desks were new at the time, none of them met Jon's criteria; most were too expensive and many didn't provide the full range of benefits they promised. So in 2011 he designed his own, the UPLIFT 900. Since then, UPLIFT Desk has since grown into a full product line of height-adjustable desks, desk converters, office chairs, acoustics, and accessories, with more ergonomic creations always in the works.
