Self-Adjusting Recline
- The Freedom chair features an dynamic, reclining mechanism that provides the right amount of support throughout a full range of motion, regardless of your size or weight- this means there's no tension springs to adjust and no recline locks to worry about
- While reclining, the angle between your torso and legs open up for better body functioning, and you can maintain near constant eye level during the recline
Dual Pivot Backrest
- Extra motion provided by the backrest during recline automatically adjusts to the changing needs of your spine
- Provides up to one inch of additional lumbar support when needed
Contoured Cushions
- The cushions are carefully sculpted to match your body's contours and increase contact area to reduce pressure points

The Humanscale Freedom is rated to 300 pounds and carries a limited 15 year warranty.
Headrest
The Freedom headrest is one of the most unique innovations available on a high back executive chair because it moves forward to support your head while you lean back in the chair, keeping you closely oriented to your monitor or the task at hand.
- Position-sensitive headrest moves into place when you recline, and out of the way when you sit up
- The headrest has a five inch range for vertical adjustment
- Cushion moves with the natural arc of head and neck for perfect support throughout the range of recline
- Contoured design cradles the head and neck in comfort
Arms
The Freedom arms are available in two different styles: standard and advanced. The standard arms quickly move up and down; the advanced arms are height and width adjustable with slightly longer armrests.
Standard Armrests
- Revolutionary armrests move in tandem to eliminate the dangers of uneven arm positioning
- Natural lift and release action allows for immediate repositioning without the need for buttons or locks
- The armrests provide a 6 inch range of vertical motion to accommodate all users and tasks
- The armrests can be positioned below thigh-level for close table or desk work
- The armrests are attached to the backrest, not the seat like most chairs, so they stay in the same relation to your body when you recline
Advanced Armrests
- Offer all the same features of the standard armrests
- Pivot at the elbow for width adjustment and are lockable in 5° increments
- Features automatic unlock when positioned inward allowing user to instantly exit chair
- Come 1 1/4"" longer than standard armrests for additional support
Arm Options
Once you pick the type of arms to best suit your needs, choose your type of armrests, Duron or Technogel, and add the surface material you prefer for the arm pads to complement your Freedom color options.
- Duron is a durable polyurethane arm with Technogel core for added comfort is standard on both arm styles
- Technogel is softer and extremely comfortable, and the standard upholstery on the gel arms is black, Xanium synthetic leather
- Either arm padding can be upholstered to match your chair
Our recommendation: Many users prefer the added adjustability of the advanced armrests as they will support the forearm while you type.
Seat Cushion
Humanscale offers a standard padded foam or gel seat cushion on the Freedom chair. Both seats are very comfortable, but the gel seat upgrade offers better long-term support and relief of pressure points for users that sit in their chair 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Standard foam seat is contoured to fit your body and reduce pressure points, and is both comfortable and supportive
- Technogel seat cushion is a non-degradable, non-compressible Technogel layer on top of a foam core that provides maximum pressure distribution and offers unmatched, long-term comfort
- Technogel seat is available only with the Squiggle, Wave, Bridget and Vellum fabrics and is not available with leather, Sensuede, Promessa or Millenium vinyl
Our recommendation: Technogel has a firmer "sit" than the standard foam that softens up somewhat after a few minutes and will offer better back support if you are seated for long periods of time. Users who are up and down more may prefer the foam.
Seat Height
Raise or lower the height of the Freedom's seat by selecting a cylinder size. When sitting in a chair, a person's feet should rest comfortably on the floor or a foot rest. Ninety-five percent of our customers select the standard height for their chair; however, a petite user with a lower desk or a tall user with a higher desk can opt for a custom configuration without worrying about bumping their knees on a work surface.
- Standard height cylinder fits 90% of the population
- Low range cylinder is available for very petite users
- High range cylinder is available for very tall users
- Tall and extra tall cylinders combine with a footring to make the Freedom Chair a drafting chair

Frame Finish
The Freedom Chair is available with three frame colors: graphite and titanium frames are standard colors, and the polished aluminum frame is an upgrade available with either titanium or graphite shells on the cushions and arms.

Base
You have several options to choose from for a Freedom base color. Pick a plastic or powder-coated aluminum base to match the titanium and graphite frames, or opt for a polished aluminum base finish. Polished aluminum frames come standard with a polished aluminum base.
- Graphite or titanium frames come standard with a durable plastic base that matches the frame color
- Polished aluminum frames ship standard with a matching polished aluminum base
- Powder-coated aluminum base upgrade matches a Graphite or Titanium frame
- Polished aluminum base upgrade complements a graphite or titanium frame
Our recommendation: If ordering a Graphite or Titanium frame, we recommend you upgrade to the powder coated base painted to match your frame for longest durability.
Casters
The Freedom chair offers four caster choices. Most of our customers select the standard casters for carpet floors or soft casters for hard floors. Glides are perfect for a stationary chair, and the locking casters let the chair move around when no one is sitting down.
- Standard Hard Casters- 2 1/2" double-wheeled for carpeted floors
- Soft Casters- 2 1/2" soft double-wheeled for hard floors
- Glides- non-rolling glides for fixed location use
- Locking Casters- lock into position when you sit on the chair

Composed of 78% merino wool with polyester and nylon interwoven for strength, Bridget Stripe is soft, durable and features brilliant colors. This stripe may be laid vertically or horizontally.

Sensuede
Sensuede was developed to be the best and most luxurious engineered suede available. The fauxsuede's soft touch comes from the use of breathable and wrinkle resistant recycled microfibers that are finer than a human hair but are extra-strong, resulting in a very resilient fabric. This material also was selected because of its environmentally sensitive content and manufacturing process.

The Freedom chair is one of the easiest chairs to adjust and appreciate. A counterbalance self-adjusts according to your weight and movement, and the armrest design and movement on this chair are exceptional. If you like to fidget while sitting and don't like manual controls, then this could be your chair. It is designed to fit a wide variety of body types. The Freedom is an excellent fit for slender to average individuals because the seating area is smaller than many other chairs.
