Unlike older generation keyboard and mouse solutions, Humanscale keyboard trays are designed to ensure that nearly all users are able to work consistently within their Neutral Reach Zone, and thus maintain a low-risk posture. These boards keep everything on one worksurface rather than use a mousing platform; this keeps a mouse on the same tilt as a keyboard in use. If you prefer to set the mousing surface angle separately, any of the other Humanscale keyboard trays aside from the 400 keyboard tray platform offer this option.

Mechanism - Humanscale 500 Keyboard Tray
Choose between Humanscale's three most popular arms.
The 5G and 6G mechanisms are their newest and most user-friendly mechanisms. They are built for maximum stability and are extremely durable. They feature:
- Easy, knob-free height adjustment
- Dial-a-tilt platform allows you to set a negative tilt from 0° to -15° , accommodating the negative tilt highly recommended by most ergonomists for safe keyboarding
- 360° swivel
- Platform stows completely underneath the work surface with the standard 22" track
The 2G mechanism offers the same range of adjustment but the tilt is not as easy to set. This is a great choice if you're seeking to save some money without sacrificing quality or function.

Track Length
The track mounts to the underside of your work surface and is what the mechanism slides forward and back on. Standard length on this mechanism is 21 5/8". If you do not have enough depth under your work surface to clear this, please see our Humanscale 500 & 550 Big Keyboard Tray - Design Your Own listing. Be sure to measure the depth under your desk (front to back) to confirm the track will fit; you need to have a track at least 1/2" shorter than the overall depth of your desk.

Choose no palm support or a 27" long foam or gel filled palm support. Both palm supports are easy to clean and removable.

A keyboard tray is a key component of an ergonomic workstation. Position your keyboard tray so you can type and mouse while keeping your wrists straight. The ideal height for the keyboard is at elbow height or lower. Typically you should locate the keyboard tray just above your lap height. Your upper arms should hang comfortably at your sides as you work. The keyboard tray should be gently sloped or tilted away from the user to allow the wrists to be straight instead of flexed. When properly adjusted, a keyboard tray allows the back, neck, shoulders, and wrists to relax. The size of the keyboard tray must accommodate the keyboard and any input device like a mouse. Avoid having your keyboard on a tray and your mouse on the desk.
