Over the years, concern has escalated over the increasing use of computers at school, work and home. Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI) have drastically risen causing many negative consequences for society. These injuries include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, back strain and other ailments resulting in problems such as lowered productivity and absenteeism. Ergonomics is the study of this trend and employs design methodologies to prevent the consequences associated with RSI.
Research has shown that developing certain ergonomically correct habits can reduce the risk of RSI when using a computer.
